“Value of Supervision?” - An experiment in online discussion

Well, the thought of John and Rich doing a live broadcast was an exciting thought. I knew they were both looking forward to this talking to them on MSN.

Out went the ticket invites and to no surprise, everyone wanted to see what these two will be up to!

It seemed a quick week getting everyone the information for logging on. Sunday came round before we knew it!! Was good to meet Rich as he is the one and only follower to this Blog!!!! LOL and I had met him online a couple of times at onlinevents’ events. So is good to put a face to those who have been with us from the start of our venture.

Another new venture for onlinevents, as we have never done this kind of discussion before. As we set up at Centrex there were a few nerves in the techs team and the “Presenters” (I could tell!!)

It was a bumpy start!! The PC wouldn’t recognise the cameras. Oh dear. So there was a bit of changing some of the technical equipment and instead of filming through the fab video camera’s we have, John used his trusty MAC. So there was no trouble of getting the picture broadcast.

As everyone was getting online some had a bit difficulty and we were able to sort some issues. Geoff was in the chat room offering technical support which was fab.

Janette and I were watching the chat room, was interesting to see the speed at which the comments were coming in!! Josh and martin spent time getting all the equipment sorted and were there to lend a hand. John Snr making sure the cameras were, although not being used for the broadcast but were recording the whole event.

The discussion went really well between Rich, John and the viewers online. The chat room was getting faster and faster as people got really excited about having something to say.

It was a lot of fun trying this kind of online discussion. But like everything, brought to light a few tweaks that need to be thought about.

And of course a good old chinwag after to discuss the highs and the lows of the event!!!
